Pharr Housing Authority is proud to announce the 2020 Residents Earning Advanced Degrees “READ” Scholarship Recipients.  The READ Program was created by the Pharr Housing Authority (PHA) with help from contributions from Pharr San Juan Alamo ISD, The City of Pharr and The Pharr Development Corporation in order to provide scholarships to student residents of Pharr Public Housing and PHA Section 8 Programs.  In all, 36 Scholarships have been awarded this year totaling $73,463.96 to deserving students.  Schools represented among the scholarship recipients include PSJA T-STEM, PSJA North, PSJA Southwest, PSJA Sotomayor, PSJA Memorial, Valley View ISD, IDEA Pharr and IDEA McAllen.  The donation from PSJA ISD was used to award the student residents from PSJA ISD.  The donation from the City of Pharr was used to award the student residents that are Non-PSJA ISD Students.  Deserving students were chosen by Selection Committee created by the Superintendent from PSJA ISD and the Pharr Housing Authority.  Committee members are from PSJA ISD: Carlos Garcia, Erica Ramos and Alonzo E. Garcia. From PHA: Erica Salinas – Public Housing Director, Marisela Rios – Section 8 Director and Lili Chavez – Public Housing Assistant Director.  We would like to give a special thanks to the Committee Members for their hard work in selecting the deserving students.  This is the 2nd year the Scholarships have been awarded.
